Linguistic Research

Presentation

Cultural mission

He pursues research interests focused on the one hand on the study and analysis of specialized languages related to the world of sports and motor activities through comparative, interlinguistic and intercultural analyses, and on the other hand on linguistics applied to language teaching in specialized fields through CLIL methodology.

Currently, the lab is testing and analyzing the collected data of both pure linguistics and learner corpora through SketchEngine software in order to finalize and implement an integrated approach for effective foreign language learning in the specialized field. Therefore, in order to achieve the goal, the current data collection (of both pure linguistics data and learner corpora) will need to be expanded and compared with a control group (data triangulation with different tests). It is hypothesized to explore the field of cognitive linguistics in order to apply additional tests and collect data to analyze learning processes.

The Laboratory of Linguistic Research is a member of the “Red Universitaria de Mentoría Dual para deportistas-estudiantes“, coordinated by UNIR (project reference: EXP_99821).

The Language Research Laboratory works closely with the University Language Center..

The laboratory

Areas of research

  • Study of specialized ESP (English for Specific Purposes) languages;
  • computational linguistics (Corpus Linguistics);
  • multimodal analysis;
  • technological and innovative applications in language research (Technology-Supported Learning);
  • Applied linguistics (Applied Linguistics) to foreign language teaching and learning.

Consequently, applied research activities have been focused on task-based teaching/learning or TBLT (Task-Based Learning and Teaching) and CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach.

New recent lines of research:

  • Integration of current lines of research with cognitive linguistics;
  • Analysis of learning processes through qualitative analysis of large language data corpora (both specialized language corpora and learner corpora);
  • innovative teaching and materials through the use of new technologies;
  • Analysis of new specialized languages: European CLA websites (multilingualism); CUS websites; eSport;
  • exploratory hypothesis of creating a feedback system development through the use of AI (possibly automated or semi-automated systems).
