TheOffice of Specialized Tutoring (UTS) is responsible for organizing and managing the services that the University offers to male and female students in response to their specific needs, and for carrying out counseling to the University’s staff to foster inclusion processes.
The presence of specialized tutoring services established by universities for the benefit of the student population with disabilities is provided for in Law 17/1999, which supplements and amends Law 104/1992.
La Law 170/2010 and the Ministerial Decree (MIUR) of 12.07.2011 regulate services for students with specific learning disorders (DSA), entrusting their organization and management to the dean’s delegate and specialized tutoring services.
The main services offered by the office are:
- reception and orientation, including collaborating and lending support to the meeting days with secondary school promoted by the University
- Collaboration on initiatives for the orientation and job placement of graduates and undergraduates
- reception, listening and tutoring to identify the needs of students, to develop with them appropriate responses to realize the best opportunities to access the educational offerings and to offer counseling for the organization of study activities
- support for the targeted choice between full-time or part-time study contracts and for the definition of the study plan (taking into account the specific disability condition and concomitant situations, e.g., ongoing therapies, high-level sports practice, working student, etc.).
- The activation of supports for access tests for courses of study (e.g., TOLC/CISIA)
- The peer-tutoring service aimed at exam preparation and facilitating students’ initial orientation. Peer tutoring is carried out through master’s degree students and PhD students
- the Italian Sign Language LIS interpreting/communication assistance service
- The reporting of students’ special needs for participation in examinations and assessment tests; the activation of dispensatory and compensatory measures
- the provision of technological aids and specific software (for study, autonomy, etc.)
- The availability of an accessible workstation for students with mobility and sensory disabilities
- The reporting of issues related to barriers
- Collaborates on outreach initiatives promoted by the Dean’s Delegate to the University
- The periodic in-depth meetings and mediation with faculty to promote educational accessibility and articulation of student support arrangements
- Collaboration in the creation of educational materials in usable and accessible format.
