Audiovisual and Multimedia Office

The Audiovisual and Multimedia Office was born in 1982 when, within the course of Didactic and Gymnastic-Sports Cinematography of the then ISEF Statale di Roma, it was decided to activate an “Audiovisual Laboratory,” which in 1996 became a full-fledged service structure and from 2001 was placed on staff of the Administrative Management. With the reorganization of the University in 2013, the Office was included in the Rectoral Services and General Affairs Area, coordinated ad interim by the General Management.

Specifically, the Audiovisual and Multimedia Office is responsible for:

  • Make the photographs and audiovisuals intended for institutional communication
  • Making audiovisual and multimedia contributions for teaching, scientific, refresher and continuing education purposes, including for distance education modules
  • Carry out photographic and audiovisual documentation of Athenaeum activities
  • Curate and preserve the University’s historical photographic, audiovisual and multimedia archives

Historical archives: photographic, film and audiovisual

The historical archive created by the Audiovisual and Multimedia Office represents a fundamental resource for knowledge of the history of the University and its transformation over the years from the first admission competition in the 1952/53 academic year to its recognition from ISEF-Istituto Superiore di Educazione Fisica (1958) to IUSM-Istituto Universitario di Scienze Motorie (1998) and, finally, to Università degli studi di Roma “Foro Italico” (2008).

The earliest photographic records in the Archives date right back to ISEF’s activities in the 1950s, but numerous other resources are available:

  • 35 16mm film pizzas with instructional films on ISEF teaching disciplines
  • 39 photo albums with about 2,500 photographs (ISEF and IUSM)
  • an exhibition with about 170 photographs on the origins of ISEF Rome.
  • 2000 videotapes in various formats (shot and edited) recorded from 1982 to 2016 (analog audiovisual archive)

The Office is equipped with video recorders in the formats for reproducing the audiovisual repertoire in the archives. It is, in addition, in the process of digitizing the analog historical archive both photographic and audiovisual.

Digital production

Photographic and audiovisual production has been carried out in digital format since 2001. The Office is equipped with equipment and software for professional digital production and post-production: cameras, video cameras, computers, audio-video mixers, accessories, peripherals and facilities for photo-video shooting.

Instructional videos

The Office produces, in collaboration with the University’s faculty, technicians, laboratories and facilities, original audiovisual productions intended to offer multimedia contributions to teaching with particular reference to the teachings and activities in the area of motor and sports disciplines. The production – reserved for students of the University of Rome “Foro Italico” – is available through access with institutional credentials on the video portal of the university intranet.

Institutional videos

The Office produces video productions for the presentation of the University, speeches of top institutional leadership in national and international contexts, educational offerings, research activities, guidance for the choice of university studies, documentation and dissemination of activities related to European projects assigned to the University.

Audiovisual and photographic documentation of events, conferences and seminars

At University events, conferences and seminars, the Office produces photographic and audiovisual documentation, integral and informed highlights, accessible for the internal community (faculty, students, technical administrative staff) with university credentials.

Video and photographs for press use

The Office provides the necessary photographic and audiovisual materials for journalists to represent the image of the University in traditional and digital media.

Public Engagement

The Office contributes to the implementation of the University’s high-value educational and cultural initiatives aimed at non-academic audiences. These include the photo exhibition “Our University in the 1950s” and the “I Stay at Home on the Move” project, implemented during the 2020 lockdown following the Covid-19 pandemic, which led to the creation in collaboration with faculty, technicians, doctoral students and students, of 5 video series with exercises to maintain physical fitness in situations of prolonged stay-at-home.

Participation in the 72nd Prix Italia: honorable mention for videos submitted by the University of Rome “Foro Italico”

On the occasion of the 72nd Prix Italia, the international award for Radio, TV and Web organized by RAI and held at MAXXI in Rome from September 24 to 26, 2020, in the space reserved for students from Lazio’s public universities (Young Lab), the Office organized a “laboratory within a laboratory” that led to the creation of four videos signed by as many students. The videos were presented on Sept. 24, 2020 in the evening “Universities tell their stories” during which the University of Rome “Foro Italico” received a special mention for promoting the values of sports, team spirit and the desire to kick-start the restart.
