In accordance with the European Commission Guidelines on Dual Careers of Athletes(EU Guidelines on Dual Careers of Athletes) approved in Poznan on September 28, 2012, the University of Rome “Foro Italico” launched the Dual career program – Uniroma4, with the aim of supporting female and high-level athletes in reconciling their competitive sports commitments with their university careers and protecting the right to study of those who practice competitive sports with a targeted project that allows them to follow a university pathway that is also useful for subsequent employment outlets at the end of their competitive sports career.
The Athenaeum is a member of EAS-European Athlete as Student, of which Prof. Laura Capranica is president, the network of universities, sports schools and other educational institutions that support young people simultaneously engaged in athletic and school-college careers.
Requirements for entering the program
Access to the program is restricted to students in the L22-curriculum 1 degree program and the LM47, LM67 and LM68 master’s degree programs formally recognized as athletes/technicians/judges of national interest by the National Sports Federations (FSN), Associated Sports Disciplines (DSA) recognized by CONI and/or the Italian Paralympic Committee.
In detail, the entry requirements are:
A) for international qualifying athletes and technicians
- Be included in the Olympic Preparation Program for the next Olympic Games and/or have participated in the last Olympic/Paralympic Games;
- be summoned to the next World Championships and/or have participated in the last World Championships;
- Be summoned to the next European Championship s and/or have participated in the last edition of the European Championships.
B) for professional athletes and technicians
- be athletes or technicians who engage in sports activities for consideration on a continuous basis (Art. 2 of Law 91/81) within the framework of disciplines regulated by CONI (F.I.G.C.; F.P.I.; F.C.I.; F.M.I.; F.I.G.; F.I.P.) in the presence of an employment relationship between the student and a professional sports club.
C) for athletes and technicians of national interest
- To be summoned to the National Representatives – Senior or Youth – of FSNs, DSAs, Paralympic Sports Disciplines or to have been summoned on at least one occasion to the national teams of FSNs/DSAs of CONI/CIP for official competitions or collegiate gatherings in the year 2024;
- for individual sports, appear in the top 20 places in the 2024 national overall or youth rankings in a discipline of the FSN they belong to;
- for team sports, participate in A1 Series championships organized by the relevant FSN/DSA at the time of application submission;
- for team sports, participate in A2 and B series championships organized by the relevant FSN/DSA at the time of application submission.
D) for referees/competition judges of national interest
- Directing meetings in winter and summer Olympic and/or Paralympic disciplines;
- Direct regular matches in national and international specialty championships in the 2024-2025 sports season;
- To be a member of juries of absolute Italian championships.
The status of student-athlete/technician/competition judge/referee is recognized by a special Commission appointed by Rectoral Decree – (Repertory Decrees No. 340/2021 02-11-2021), which will verify the possession of the requirements based on the documentation submitted.
Facilities for those admitted to the program
- 100% tuition waiver in the cases at points A, B, C3;
- 50% tuition waiver in cases at C1, C2, C4, D;
- Possibility of making use of a tutor, only in cases at points A, B, C3.
Ways to participate in the program
To submit the request, the student must complete the form Request for Participation in the Dual Career Program., addressed to the chairperson of their course of study, and send it to programmazione.didattica@uniroma4.it.
With the application, the student must attach a statement certified by the CONI/CIP FSN/DSAs, prepared according to the form Certification Dual Career Requirements Athletes/Technicians. and bearing the stamp and signature of the Federal Manager.
Applications for a.y. 2024-2025 must be received by Nov. 24, 2024.
Accepted waiver requests are valid only for the current academic year and must be resubmitted for each academic year.
