Gender policies implement a set of initiatives and norms that enable the reduction of gender inequality and the realization of effective equality between men and women.
In academia, each measure is aimed at achieving work-life balance, enabling personal growth and enhancement (empowerment).
The University of Rome “Foro Italico” has always been committed to gender policies having introduced several measures aimed at countering all forms of gender discrimination in university life, with particular reference to equal opportunity and inclusion policies.
Gender Equality Plan
The Gender Equality Plan (GEP) of the University of Rome “Foro Italico” defines the University’s strategy for gender equality, according to the gender mainstreaming approach, i.e., the introduction of a gender perspective in academic policies in order to counter the inequalities between women and men present in society. Both a strategic and operational document, the GEP stands in continuity with the Gender Balance process and the Positive Action Plan (PAP).
Gender Balance Sheet
The Gender Balance Sheet (BdG) is a useful tool to take a snapshot of the gender distribution of the different components within the University and the different participation of women and men in the governance of the institution. The BoG is both a tool for analysis and intervention, as it examines time series of gender distribution across the different components of the entire university community to inspire and monitor the University’s actions for gender equality, assessing their different impacts on women and men. The University has established a Working Group dedicated to drafting the Gender Balance according to the CRUI Guidelines.
Manifesto against gender-based violence
The University of Rome “Foro Italico” is committed to drawing the attention of institutional offices, entities and associations active in the area to the issue of gender inequality and violence against women, with a specific focus on the field of sports. The issue of gender inequality, a breeding ground for violence in the world of sports, be it professional, academic and research, calls the University to play a multifaceted role, as an institution devoted to educating its student community, but also to producing a virtuous culture on the ground.
Orientation and sexual identity
The University is actively engaged in the fight to protect human and minority rights: particularly in the area of sexual orientation and identity, combating homophobia, biphobia and transphobia is of paramount importance. The University of Rome “Foro Italico” issued in 2022 the Regulations for the activation and management of an alias identity for subjects in gender transition. The Regulations promote the recognition of the rights of the person in transition during the university career in the University, through the regulation of an administrative procedure that allows, the person who requests it, to acquire an alias identity in the path of rectification of registry sex attribution.
