The University of Rome “Foro Italico” is headquartered in the Foro Italico sports and cultural complex, located in the northern part of the city of Rome next to the bank of the Tiber River and a short walk from the historic Milvian Bridge, in a setting that is rich in history and cultural appeal, with some of the most important sports facilities in the capital.
The buildings that house it were inaugurated in 1932. At the same time the Stadio dei Marmi, now in use by the University, was built. Other buildings and the sports complex that now surrounds them were added in later years and are used in part by the University for its activities.
A pre-existing stadium was extensively renovated for the 1990 World Cup, which is the current Olympic Stadium, one of the largest and most functional among Italian stadiums.
The Athenaeum can use the indoor Olympic pool and the “hanging” pool. On the Tiber River, in front of the University’s headquarters, is the Rowing Center, a section of the Athenaeum’s Polisportiva.
The University site is served by a rich transportation system, combining subway and surface subways, buses, express buses, and streetcars, and is surrounded by ample parking facilities.
