University Quality Presidium (PQA)

The University Quality Presidium (PQA) is an internal structure of the University, which performs functions of promotion, surveillance and monitoring of continuous quality improvement and defines processes and procedures for theQuality Assurance (QA). The Quality Presidium operates at the Athenaeum level, in Courses of Study, Doctorates of Research and Departments, based on the guidelines formulated by the Governing Bodies. It was established pursuant to Ministerial Decree 47/2013 and the ANVUR Document on Self-Evaluation, Assessment and Accreditation of the Italian University System.

The University Quality Presidium in particular:

  • Promotes the culture and continuous improvement of quality in the University
  • Provides advice to the University’s governing bodies on QA issues.
  • monitors the implementation of the criteria that the Governing Bodies adopt for the ‘QA of Courses of Study, evaluation and continuous improvement of teaching, research and services
  • Oversees and monitors QA processes.
  • supports courses of study (undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate), their contact persons and the Department Director in the management of processes for QA also through the preparation of University guidelines
  • Proposes common tools the training and updating of staff for QA purposes

The University Quality Presidium prepares an annual report on its activities and sends it to the Rector and the Evaluation Board.

The Athenaeum Quality Presidium, in agreement with the department, also conducts an annual survey of student opinions on teaching (OPIS) according to the AVA model, which is sent to the Evaluation Board.

The survey covers all teachings that end with an examination or a proficiency test and has 4 stages:

  1. The collection of opinions through the Anvur questionnaire;
  2. The processing of the results;
  3. The return of results to individual courses of study (CoS);
  4. dissemination of results among governing bodies and for the compilation of key documents and in support of the quality process.

The questionnaire used for the survey corresponds to forms 1 and 3 proposed by Anvur, filled in for each teaching in the LSC based on class attendance. The survey is initiated on January 15 of each year for semester I teachings and May 15 for semester II teachings.

The Presidium always advises faculty to provide a time in the classroom, after at least 2/3 of the lectures have been held, dedicated to filling out the questionnaire through mobile devices. Completion remains open until the time of exam booking.

The return of the results in excel and pdf formats is done in October through automated procedures, respecting the principles of privacy to protect respondents and evaluated teachers.
Each teacher receives data on his or her teachings delivered in any CdS.

CoS Chairs have access to aggregated (by CoS) and disaggregated (by individual teaching) data on the CoS they chair, also for the purpose of sharing evaluations with members of the Quality Assurance Management Committee and the Review Group. The Department Director, the Quality Presidium, the University Evaluation Board and the Joint Teachers-Students Committee have access to all aggregated and disaggregated data.
