The Rector, as defined in the Statute (Title II, Chapter I, Section I, Article 4), represents the University for all legal purposes. In particular, he ensures the pursuit of the institutional tasks of the University and promotes its development, assuming, within the scope of his role and attributions, the functions of direction, initiative and coordination with regard to the activities of the institution.

The Rector is elected from among first-rank professors, serving full-time at Italian universities, in the manner provided for in Article 97 of Presidential Decree No. 382 of July 11, 1980 and governed by the General Regulations of the University.

The Chancellor appoints the Vice Chancellor, Vice Chancellors and Delegates.

The term of office is for a single six-year, nonrenewable term.

The acting chancellor for the six-year period 2019-2025 is Prof. Attilio Parisi.

The dean is eligible for an office allowance in the amount determined by the Board of Trustees.
