Course structure
The Training Course for the attainment of specialization in educational support activities for pupils with disabilities, now in its 8th edition, is divided into 4 different types of activities to which specific CFUs correspond:
- Theoretical teachings (36 CFUs)
- Laboratories (9 CFUs)
- Internship Activities (12 CFUs)
- Final Examination (3 CFUs)

Workshops
The Workshops are diversified according to the grade and order of the school of instruction: kindergarten, primary, junior high, and senior secondary, as stipulated in DM 249 of 2010 and DM of Sept. 30, 2011.
All workshop activities are organized according to a cooperative and collaborative learning, research-action, meta-cognitive learning mode and are divided into:
- group work, simulations, in-depth study
- Application experiences in real or simulated situations
- applied experiences related to training activities in the subject areas characterizing classroom group management

Internship
There is an internship for a total of 300 hours corresponding to 12 CFUs divided into direct internship and indirect internship.
The direct internship is to be completed in no less than 5 months and is carried out at educational institutions. During the internship, the aspiring support teacher is supervised by the mentor chosen from among the teachers of the educational institution.
Indirect internship, on the other hand, includes supervised activities by course instructors and involves:
- reworking of professional experience
- Reframing the professional experience from a personal and psycho-motivational point of view
- Practical activity on the use of new technologies, applied to special education (ICT)
The report on the professional internship experience, consisting of a collection of elaborations, reflections and documentation, is the subject of thefinal examination.

Final Examination
The course concludes with a final examination that, through an interview with the candidate, evaluates:
- An in-depth theoretical paper of the candidate’s choice aimed at demonstrating complete mastery of the chosen topic and its application aspects in school settings
- A report on the professional internship experience consisting of a collection of elaborations, reflections and documentation
- A multimedia product aimed at special education with the use of communication and information technology (C.I.T.)
The final overall assessment, expressed in thirtieths, results from the sum of the arithmetic mean of the scores obtained in the assessments referring to the direct and indirect internship, laboratories and teaching as well as the final exam. The test is considered passed if an evaluation of at least 18/30 is obtained.
