Quality Assurance (QA)

Quality Assurance (QA)

Ensuring quality is a fundamental process that involves all stakeholders in the university, promoting healthy confrontation among them in order to consolidate the social role of the university.

Quality Assurance is inspired by thestandards and guidelines articulated at the European level(Standards and guidelines for quality assurance in the European Higher Education Area – ESG), later incorporated by the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University System and Research(ANVUR) into the national Quality Assurance system.

These guidelines call for the implementation of measures to design, monitor and evaluate educational offerings and research activities to ensure compliance with quality standards in content and objectives.

The national Quality Assurance system consists of three main processes: Self-Assessment, Evaluation and Accreditation (AVA) and is developed by the University with specific guidance and management activities carried out by the Governing Bodies and the Quality Presidium.

The goal of the AVA system, now in its third edition (AVA3), is to improve the quality of the University’steaching, research, third mission/social impact and other institutional and management activities. This is done through the application of a Quality Assurance (QA) model based on internal procedures for the design, management, self-assessment and improvement of educational and scientific activities and on external verification carried out in a clear and transparent manner.

Following the guidelines of ANVUR, the structures of the QA System are required to periodically evaluate the achievement of their objectives. This responsibility is entrusted to the University Quality Presidium, which also plays a role in coordinating and monitoring the Department’s quality process, benefiting from the contained size of the University of Rome “Foro Italico.”

For the University of Rome “Foro Italico,” Quality Assurance means:

  • Define quality policies in tune and synergy with the University’s strategic directions and reliable and robust procedures through which governing bodies can implement them
  • To carry out activities to ensure effectiveness and efficiency in all internal processes of the University, particularly in the service of the quality of education and research, but also of such fulfillments as the drafting of the Integrated Plan of Activities and Organization (PIAO) of the University.
  • Create awareness in all those who work in the University, so that the tasks of each are carried out competently and timely, the services provided are effective, and the activities carried out are tracked to monitor and measure results, taking into account the inputs of the operating structures
  • To promote organizational well-being within the university community with actions aimed at improving the life of each person works at the University of Rome “Foro Italico”.

Monitoring and evaluation

The annual monitoring is an integral part of the self-evaluation activities conducted by the Courses of Study (CoS), particularly by the Review Group of each CoS, composed of the CoS President, two faculty members and a student representative.

The process involves the completion of an Annual Monitoring Form (AMS), which contains a summary assessment of indicators provided by ANVUR related to:

  • didactics
  • internationalization
  • evaluation of teaching
  • regularity of careers
  • Job satisfaction and employability
  • consistency and qualification of the teaching staff

The goal is to identify any critical issues and compare results with national or regional averages of similar Courses of Study.

In addition, the Annual Monitoring Form of the University of Rome “Foro Italico” includes:

Cyclical review

The Cyclic Review is part of the self-evaluation of the Courses of Study and is conducted by the Review Group, composed of the Chair of the CdS, two faculty members and a student representative.

This in-depth analysis examines the performance of the CdS, identifies problems and proposes solutions for the next cycle. The Cyclical Review is carried out at least every five years or in case of a specific request by ANVUR, MUR or the University, or in situations of critical issues or substantial changes in the system.

Evaluation criteria include:

  • Definition of cultural and professional profiles and architecture of the CoS
  • student experience
  • resources of the CoS
  • monitoring and review of the CoS
  • commentary on indicators

Three-year departmental plans

The University of Rome “Foro Italico,” as part of the Department’s three-year planning, conducts an annual self-assessment of results, monitoring the objectives of Research and Third Mission/Social Impact.

In the middle of the third year, a review of the Department takes place, influencing the planning of the new cycle, considering the achievement of objectives, new dynamics and future prospects in accordance with the University Strategic Plan..

Internal doctoral course evaluation procedure

The Doctoral Program’s internal evaluation procedure allows the Coordinator, the Department and the University to monitor the progress of the Doctoral Program, providing useful data for the distribution of internal resources.

To achieve these quality goals, theUniversity has established the following tables and working groups:
