Cultural Mission
It is concerned with developing clinical research in the field of sports medicine, rehabilitation and internism, also making use of collaborations with Centers of Excellence and Academic Institutions operating in the field , in order to investigate the physiological mechanisms of adaptation of the human body to sport, to study the role of sport in prevention and therapy of chronic diseases, and to develop, in collaboration with other National Institutions, Guidelines and Protocols in the field of sports medicine.
Main lines of research
Physiological mechanisms of adaptation to exercise, with special reference to the maintenance of health and well-being. Clinical aspects related to the practice of sports activities, with special reference to primary and secondary prevention of chronic diseases. Echocardiographic and functional evaluation of athletes for screening of predisposing pathologies to sudden cardiac death. Prevention of doping and potentially risky health behaviors in sports. New frontiers of anti-doping research. Role of exercise in musculoskeletal disorders. Rehabilitation and return to sport after injury. Effects of exercise in the elderly. Oxidative stress and exercise. Gender identity and sports activity.
