Center for the Study of Law and Ethics

Center for the Study of Law and Ethics

Presentation

The Center is concerned with the study of the multiple interactions between ethical issues and legal profiles of administrative action in order to contribute to the study and interpretation and development of legal rules and conduct, including in the field of sports.

Main lines of research

A specific line of research has been developed on “Administrative artificial intelligence: ethical perspectives for a legal framework,” aimed at delineating an autonomous legal status for administrative action through artificial intelligence.

By virtue of the analysis of the mechanisms of operation of decision-making processes accomplished through automation systems, both in the procedural sphere up to the trial stage, new rules of administrative conduct and indicators for monitoring their implementation will be studied and identified, useful for ensuring good performance, impartiality and transparency of the work of public administration.

The objective will be pursued with a theoretical-practical approach, through the analysis of the possibilities of elaborating new principles and criteria of administrative artificial intelligence, outlining a new type of “algorithmic administrative procedure,” with a survey of the fallout in the areas of sports law characterized by the exercise of administrative action.

The described line of research, developed and to be developed in special conferences and study days, as well as in scientific treatises and even monographic issues of the University journal Amministrativ@mente (link), is part of the activities of the PRIN Project “Artificial Administrative Intelligence for territorial equality. Operative research over the public interest and the protection of persons in the face of the evolutions of digital era,” eligible for funding in 2023 by the MUR.

In addition, the Center is also involved in organizing training and conference initiatives on corruption prevention and transparency, as well as on administrative and sports law.

The Center has activated a Convention with the Ministry of the Interior and the Lottomatica Foundation for study and research activities on ethical-legal implications for the development of the culture of legality.

The Center also edits the thematic focus section on digital transition and artificial intelligence in the journal Administrativ@mente.
